New York City has many nicknames, the big apple, the city that never sleeps but whatever you call it there is no denying that it is one of the most exciting places in the world. Originally founded as a Dutch trading post in 1626 in what is now Lower Manhattan. Today New York City is made up of five boroughs, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan. The five areas respectively were formed into to New York in 1898 and the city of dreams was born.

Obviously, it is an amazingly popular tourist destination and one of the most multicultural metropolitan areas in America. Upwards of 800 languages are spoken in the city adding to its character and diversity.

The city’s tourist attractions are almost too many to list but if your stay is only short to make sure you see the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and the Empire State Building. If you are an art lover take the time to visit the Metropolitan Museum of art. As it houses one of the largest and most eclectic collections in the world.
